I can't believe today has come - - we have had a whole decade of loving, knowing, living with Charlotte Annie. Today she turns ten years old. My mind can't quite wrap itself around that fact. On the one hand, it seems like we just got married, walked through that honeymoon pregnancy, and just met her. On the other, it feels we've been this family unit of three for forever.
Charlotte still brings us joy through her creativity and sometimes stubborn streaks. She currently loves to write stories and recently has started writing out scripts for us three to act out readers theatre-style in our living room. She now has teal or blue as her favorite color replacing her signature hot pink from the past. She still adds hearts on everything. Swimming is a favorite way to spend hot summer days especially at Grammy's house or when we visit Aunt Wendy and Uncle Tim. She still spends hours playing with her dolls and dollhouse and has especially bonded with Oreo, our black and white one year old pup, as they chase one another round and round in the house. Little Hershey (about to turn 11) likes to keep his distance and watch from there...often from the couch. She loves to draw and will often ask her Dad or me to print specific items she dreams up and wants us to create through chatGPT for her to color. Our walls in our home are often adorned with these scenes or phrases she pens for us.
She continues to love being a student in our local Catholic elementary school and has been enjoying life as a 4th grader. She lists her favorite specials as being gym, music, art, library, and computers in that order.
This past year, she started taking piano lessons and has a real ear for it. According to Adam, who takes her to her weekly lessons while I'm at work, she picks up the tunes quite naturally and somewhat quickly for only having started the lessons this past fall. Her favorite song right now is Ordinary. She wants to be a baker when she grows up and says that I can work in the shop since I "talk a lot, Mama".
Since last year's birthday post, we have gone on adventures, continuing to engage in going on them with our friends, Robbie & Liz.
Once again, Charlotte was able to bring a friend home to Grammy's house last summer. Robbie and Liz made the trip and we were able to enjoy Knoebels Amusement Park together.
She still enjoys going to plays and musicals (we just saw Annie in Pittsburgh for my birthday outing last weekend), movies, and playing with her family and college friends when she sees them. She broke her arm at school, during recess, on May 1st last year so had to take a summer off from swimming and stop the cheer/tumbling classes. However, for this spring, she has resume tumbling once a week and is loving being back at the local family activity center.
She still often colors her nails with markers, rather than using nail polish. Eat and Park remains one of her favorite restaurants followed closely by Texas Roadhouse and Chik-fil-A.
Thinking of some of her favorites, she still enjoys spending time with her college friends, Girls GIFT (Growing in Faith/Fellowship/Friendship Together) teachers and peers, watching puppy or baby videos with me, and also loves her friends (often requesting to have two or three friends at a time for a play date) and painting or other sorts of crafts/art.
Happy 10th Birthday, Charlotte Annie, on the 7th of March! You are our little fairy and day by day we three are cultivating and tilling our little corner of the world in our family garden of life. Thank you, Lord, for sustaining us and helping us to grow and bloom right where we are.
