Meals as a Mrs. ~ Reese's Nutter Butter Cookie Truffles

Anyone who knows me knows how much I LOOOOOOVE chocolate peanut butter combinations.  So when I stumbled across this Reese's Nutter Butter Cookie Truffle recipe last September I couldn't help but drool over it.  I didn't get around to making this snack until Valentine's Day.  I figured since Adam is a Nutter Butter cookie fan and I love anything chocolate/peanut butter that this would be a "sweet" treat to make for the holiday.  I mean with these ingredients, we figured this recipe HAD to be good right?

First, I assembled all the ingredients.

Then it was time to use our food processor to crunch up all those perfectly good Nutter Butter cookies into a fine powdery crumb.
The next step took the most amount of time and it was really hard to not eat the quartered  mini peanut butter cups as I cut them!
Equally as difficult was the next step....difficult to refrain from eating some of the "batter" as everything was mixed together.
Next up:  melt the chocolate....
....then comes the fun part of dunking the balls!!

I forgot to take pictures after this since this was the part where it got pretty messy with dripping chocolate and trying to get the frozen balls dunked, covered, and placed on the waxed paper on the cookie sheets without being too messy.

The final verdict?  Well, they were good but perhaps we had this treat built up in our minds to be much better than they were?  Adam remarked that he would rather eat the Nutter Butter cookies in their original state.  I think as far as truffles go, I prefer cake balls over these.  All in all, it was a fun recipe to try but a bit messy and tasted slightly different from what I expected.  Of course we polished off this yummy dessert because well, chocolate and peanut butter.  ; )

Tonight's meditation comes from Proverbs 27:9 - Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart,
but by grief the soul is torn asunder.

This makes me think of how powerful our senses are.  Have you ever heard a song that took you right back to that moment in time when you first heard it?  Or smelled a familiar scent that immediately reminds you of someone or some place?  A cologne, perfume, or even the aroma of fresh baked cookies may be tied to a certain someone.  Maybe the way a fabric feels against your skin brings that sense of familiarity and comfort or perhaps the way something tastes takes you to another time or place when you ate something similar in the past.

So many lived experiences and memories make up the tapestries of our lives.  Where one loose thread or string ends, another begins and before you know it, you have an interwoven web of intricate details and stories that make up you.  Wrapping yourself in these memories unique to your lived experience that bring comfort and peace can help to act as a shield or sort of armor especially when facing feelings of uncertainty, fear, doubt, and grief and when you feel as if your soul or heart has been torn into two.

Earlier tonight I was talking with a friend about how different life is now compared to one short year ago (for the both of us) and said that having gone through certain experiences probably makes us appreciate our current situations nowadays all the more.  She agreed and reminded me of the importance of looking at where we currently are and being thankful for what is, what could have been, and what isn't.  What a reality check and reminder to truly be thankful for all that is and will be.
