I also read this tidbit of information recently: All the children a woman will bear are present inside her even before she is born. They are created while she is still nothing more than a tiny form twisting and floating in utero.
Yowza! That blew me away...what if this child we're carrying right now is a girl and without even having been born all the children she could bear are already present....it's surreal to think of how Adam and I are creating a new family that will in turn carry out another new family someday and so on and so on and so on....Anyhow, instead of looking too far into the future right now, here's a look back at some thoughts from late August.
Tuesday, 08/25/15: 12 weeks 1 day
We had our initial baby appointment
with the high risk doctor at Magee Women’s Hospital in Pittsburgh this
afternoon. Fortunately, we didn’t have
to drive into the city as we had a videoteleconference call with the doctor
after she read the scans/paperwork that were taken at the hospital.
Basically, at this point, everything
is looking good. Thank God!! The baby is about 2 inches long from
head to bottom and is active in there!
The baby kept putting his/her hands over the face and at one point
behind the head while we were “taking pictures”. Then, the baby stretched and crossed the feet
at the ankles. It was so adorable! What was even funnier was that I was laying
on the table with my feet crossed at the ankles too. ; )
Because of our ages (Adam is in his
early 40s and I’m in my mid 30s), the doctor gave us the genetic testing speech
but at this point, Adam and I are declining the screenings/bloodwork as we
aren’t terminating if there is a disability/Downs/etc. and we figure we’ll just
find out if anything needs to be addressed once the baby is born.
Fibroid update: there
are two big ones and one small one. One
of the big ones is way off to the side so we aren’t concerned about it but the
other two are the ones that are potential cause for concern. We will be meeting with the Magee specialists
again (via videoteleconference) on Tues., 10/13/15. They plan to do a full baby anatomy scan to
check on measurements and also to monitor the growth of the fibroids. One of the fibroids had grown in the last two
weeks but only just by a little bit. The
doctor today said they are basically tumors but not a sign of cancer and that
the only major concerns are if the fibroids get too big to keep the baby from
having room to grow and/or if they start to disintegrate that they would cause
me abdominal pain and discomfort (but isn’t that involved with being
pregnant anyhow?!). For now, it’s a waiting
game which is why we need to have the frequent appointments to monitor growth of
both the baby and the fibroid(s). We
also have a regular appointment with our local doctor on Tues., 09/22/15, so we
get a break from the doctors for a while as I go back to full time teaching as
of Wed. morning this week.
If all goes well at the specialist
appointment at the hospital on 10/13/15 then we’ll probably share the news with
folks outside the family sometime that week.
This would put us at the 19 weeks and 1 day mark and in the 2nd trimester so
hopefully all will continue as it has been.
Oh, here’s something interesting we
learned today. For those who had
jokingly asked if I might have twins due to being a twin and Adam also having
twins on his side of the family, apparently there was some question about two
sacs vs. the one at earlier appointments but everyone today said for sure there
is *only* one baby in there. ; )
Enjoy the attached picture of the kiddo at 12 weeks and 1 day! It must take after Adam as it kept hiding from the camera.
