I loved these responses to a question on one of my finals this semester.
Question: List the most valuable thing you have learned from this class here:
Answer: The most valuable thing I have learned in this class is coming into a new environment (I'm a transfer student), becoming comfortable in it (because of the way the professor structures her classes), and engage in risk taking (speaking out loud to class, volunteer to give answers). This opened my eyes up to how a child would succeed in a developmentally appropriate safe and comfortable environment.
Answer: I learned what creativity and art truly mean in an educational setting, which overturned my previous assumptions of these concepts. Art is not product-oriented and creativity means letting children express themselves and what they have learned in varied ways. This goes along with the theory of multiple intelligences; I learned that there is more than one way that children can be considered "smart".
Ah, reading comments like these make grading a little less tedious. It is so awesome when students "get it"!! They are going to make some pretty fabulous teachers one day!!
