Our first leg of our cross-country road trip is in the books. We left Adam's parents' house this morning at 6:30am. I can't even imagine how hard it must have been for them to watch Adam walk out that door or for Adam to do the walking. It was an emotional morning for all four of us that's for sure.
After a day of uneventful driving, little to no traffic, and beautiful sunny weather, we made it to Albuquerque, New Mexico by 8:30pm. Today was the longest planned driving day so the rest of the road trip will be downhill from here!
Other random facts from Day 1:
Number of miles traveled: 772.44
Number of bags of beef jerky consumed: 3
Strawberry Creme sparkling water is DELISH!
Times I had to pinch myself to realize this is really happening: too many to count!
Below are some pictures from today as we began our trek!

Too much energy this early in the morning..thanks to the yummy coffee from Adam's parents' home. ;) |
The sun came up over the hills of Corona, CA as we began our trip bright and early today. |
It was interesting seeing how the landscape and vegetation changed as we inched eastward. |
Pretty scenes in Arizona |
As we increased in elevation and drew closer to Flagstaff, AZ, we began seeing more and more snow on the sides of the road and the return of plant life and trees! |
Setting sun from the back window; we quickly ran out of steam as night fell so are glad that today was the longest leg of the journey. |
These trees we saw as we crossed from CA into AZ were neat! |
Colorado River just before we entered Arizona |
First attempt... |
...and the second attempt was more successful in spite of the wind whipping our hair around and whatnot! |
We saw SO many trains....reminded us of "Ticket to Ride"! |
We missed the New Mexico sign so this sign at the Welcome Center had to do....it is COLD here so the heavy coat will be coming out for the remainder of the trip at this point! |
